Alpine ibex horns record many types of environmental data. Horn growth depends on diverse factors including: heterozygosity, snowfall, vegetation protein content, and temperature. To form this sculpture, high-resolution scans of an actual ibex horn were rendered and dramatically enlarged through 3D printing. Emblazoned on the side of the horn is a theoretical, mathematical model predicting annual horn growth. Though the etched text is reminiscent of ancient scrimshaw, the modern sintered nylon and printing draw comparisons between historical and contemporary times.
