These site-specific, painting installations are coated with a smooth, non-porous varnish. Their slippery surface is ideal for dry-erase markers. Participants are supplied with a bucket of markers and prompted by wall text to “write, draw or scribble their thoughts directly on the work.” Viewers contribute uncensored responses to the works, often obscuring and transforming my marks. Collaborative results are then photographically archived. These paintings invite conversation on controversial topical issues, while seducing participants to the edge of vandalism. Exchanges bring fresh perspectives to overexposed political issues and propaganda. Previous graffiti collaborations have shown at The Drawing Center in New York, in Boston, Miami, Brooklyn and Austin.
